Hidden Ideas, Glass jar and various materials - Black and white and hidden away. Ideas we hadn't had yet and didn't know about. Materials became the tools to reach them.
Another viewpoint, Glass jar, various materials - Active listening and a willingness to see things from a different angle. Entering into the unknown but with an element of familiarity. To learn something new we entered into a brave space and reached for inspiration from materials.
Mixing Ideas, Acrylic paint - Whole ideas came together to be part of something else. Combining ideas made a new idea altogether, much like mixing paint. With no clear defined lines this image merges colours with large, seemingly haphazard brush strokes.
Perspective, various materials - What stands out first will lead onto the next. A single artist's brush strokes (Shahn, 1957), sentences (Doyle, 1998), or musical phrases (Csikszentmihalyi, 1975) are spontaneous responses to what came before.
Flow, various materials - A circle can go round and round continuously. Where's the beginning? Where is the end? When in flow state, during the workshops, the beginning and end no longer felt relevant.
Temptation, Pink pom pom - Different materials can be appealing for different reasons. Through the workshops the tactility of materials became evidently important. Structure, colour and texture play a part in what makes us drawn to a material. This image aims to show how appealing an object can be due to variations in these properties.
The Art of Play, Acrylic paint - Play might look messy/frivolous/childish, but scratch beneath the surface
and something else is happening....
Context, Sea glass, pebbles, marble, pistachio shell, tile - Play can be seen as frivolous and something only children do. Selection of materials and context can effect meaning. This image neatly displaying found items, depicts how the arrangement of objects can influence how they are perceived.
Seeds, various materials - Different materials acted as seeds that grew into ideas. This image presents the materials in a haphazard way that displays how they fall together, showing the contrast in colours and shapes. Colourful and collected together, some might stand out more than others by sparking a memory or idea.
